Antrim Hospital Radio
is a voluntary organisation that started back in April 1994 with a group
of radio enthusiasts when the hospital was just being built. Our membership
has been drawn from as far a-field as Cushendall and Glengormley.
We are an award winning
station (BT Hospital Radio Awards 1997) that aims to provide quality request
based shows for the patients in Antrim Hospital.
So, what do we do?
Our
presenting staff are committed to giving the patients what they want to
hear and to do this they spend a hour visiting with the patients in the
ward to collect requests - favourite songs, hymns and pieces of music.
Then return to the studio and produce and present an entertaining 2 hour
show with the patients’ requests included.
Our
volunteers visit all of the wards in the hospital in rotation over the
period of a week.
We have a well equipped
studio and excellent library resource. New recruits are trained by experienced
presenters and are given their own show as soon as they are ready to go
solo.
The age range for
our presenting staff is between 18 and 80, with most of the volunteers
being actually 25+!
