Hospital
Radios are completely voluntary organisations that operate within
hospitals. There are over 250 in the UK and 8 in Northern Ireland.
Although every
station operates in accordance with the wishes of each individual
hospital trust each station is completely self funding and relies
on donations and sponsorship. Hospital radio stations never use
any funds that could be spent on health care.
Hospital radio
is very rewarding. The patients find visits from hospital radio
representatives very rewarding and enjoy listening to specially
tailored shows.
Volunteers also
find hospital radio rewarding, they can build their broadcasting
skills as well as meet lots of new people and help their local community.
Hospital Radio
studios operate like smaller versions of professional studios, all
stations use CD's & Record players and many now use mini disc
systems as well as computer automation systems - some even broadcasting
24 hours a day.
